Authenticity is the ONLY way to be.
I know it seems like common sense, but being authentic is truly the only way an audience will fall in love with you. People are more in tune with their instincts than you know. They can sense when someone is being fake. It's that feeling you get when you meet someone and say to yourself "They bug me," or "They just feel 'off' to me."
Authentic: 1) not false or copied; genuine; real
2) representing one's true nature or beliefs; true to oneself.
It's the same reason you're attracted to the blogger, Instagramer or TikToker. They are authentic, or their true self.
What does authenticity look for me?
To me, being authentic is not being who I "think" I should be. As a journalist, we're taught to act a certain way, talk a certain way, think a certain way, but for me, I throw most of that out the door. It's taken me years to find myself on-camera, but I have. I laugh, I joke, I'm sarcastic and sometimes even snarky, but it's me. I'm comfortable with that, and that's how it should be.
What does authenticity look like for you?
It's a matter of feeling comfortable in your own skin, but not just your skin, your personality. Shining on-camera, takes time, takes practice, patience and experience. You can't just step in front of a camera and expect to be a pro. But you can work on your appearance, your stand, your voice and your body language. With that being said, it takes a full package, and you can be just that.
